Physiotherapy

Woman sat at with a laptop computer Our physiotherapists assist patients in restoring function and movement, and reducing pain. Physical disorders may be caused by injuries, medical conditions, developmental disability or simply the stress of busy lives. Many people are referred for physiotherapy following orthopaedic surgery. People of all ages and activity levels can benefit from physiotherapy to help improve their quality of life and prevent future problems.

Musculoskeletal physiotherapy is concerned with problems of the joints and soft tissues such as muscles, tendons, ligaments, discs and nerves. Common conditions include back and neck pain, osteoarthritis, repetitive strain disorders and sporting injuries.

One of our therapists will discuss the pattern and history of your symptoms with you, perform a physical assessment, then use their clinical knowledge and problem-solving skills to formulate a treatment programme. They can choose from a wide range of techniques including:

  • Exercise prescription for flexibility, strengthening and core stability
  • Manual mobilisation/manipulation of the joints and tissues
  • Electrotherapy (such as ultrasound and interferential)
  • Acupuncture

Physiotherapy also encompasses health promotion and the prevention of disorders, for example, advice regarding your posture or fitness for your daily life. We believe that it is important to work closely with patients to help them understand and take an active role in their own rehabilitation.
